Entering Gardiner

We initially entered Montana at Sweet Grass, the US border town on the road from Calgary to Great Falls. Driving through Montana is pretty boring. Although there are rolling hills one can see the road for miles ahead.

We stopped at Great Falls, where we spent the night on our way down to Yellowstone.

From Great Falls we drove to Gardiner, a small dusty resort town at the north entrance to Yellowstone Park. We spent 2 nights here and used it as our base to tour Yellowstone.

Gardiner is a pretty nice place but as it is located in a dusty desert type bowl all the grass is brown and unattractive - so that spoilt it for us a little.

We left Yellowstone through the western entrance, through a small town called West Yellowstone, an interesting frontier type town with many curio shops. We tried to buy a Connor sheriff badge here but they were sold out.
